Recently, the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF) announced the Golden Visa data for May 2022. In May 2022, a total of 112 main applicants and 138 dependent applicants were approved for the Portuguese Golden Visa, with an investment amount of 53.8 million euros. Among them, there were 17 main applicants from China, ranking first, followed by the United States (16), Brazil (10), Lebanon (8), and India (7).
In terms of investment methods, among all approved applicants in May 2022, 93 applicants chose real estate investment projects, that is, obtaining the Golden Visa through property purchase, with an investment amount of 44.955 million euros. Of this, 28.0616 million euros flowed into the 500,000 euro property purchase immigration project; 16.8934 million euros flowed into the 350,000 euro old property renovation project.
In addition, the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service also released overall data since the implementation of the Golden Residence Permit policy in October 2012. The data shows that by the end of May this year, a total of 10,748 main applicants had been approved for the Portuguese Golden Visa, with 17,752 dependent applicants approved. Among them, Chinese families still occupy a significant portion, with 5,109 families approved, accounting for about 48%, indicating the love and recognition of Chinese investors for Portuguese projects. Moreover, through the Golden Residence Permit program, Portugal has attracted 6.338 billion euros in investment, of which 5.697 billion euros were directly invested in the real estate market. This shows that overseas investors have a strong interest in the Portuguese real estate market.
