Antigua and Barbuda follows a British-style education model, with compulsory education provided for primary and secondary levels. Primary education begins at age 5 and lasts for 6 years. Secondary education begins at age 11 and lasts for 5 years, consisting of 3 years of junior secondary and 2 years of senior secondary school. The entire compulsory education period spans from age 5 to 17, totaling 12 years. Upon completing the secondary curriculum, students can pass examinations to enter local higher education institutions for further studies or choose to transfer directly to other Commonwealth countries to continue their education. Most schools are managed by the government.
