The 2nd Hong Kong International Music Festival opened on the evening of the 24th in Hong Kong. This year's festival attracted over 10,000 participants from more than 70 countries and regions around the world, with approximately 1,400 individuals coming to Hong Kong for the finals.
At the opening ceremony held that evening, the Chairman of the Hong Kong International Music Festival Preparatory Committee, Xu Junhui, stated in his speech that music is a universal language. The Hong Kong International Music Festival aims to integrate Chinese music, Western music, and music from around the world, creating an international music event in Hong Kong that caters to a global audience. The festival will continue to promote the development of music culture and arts in Hong Kong and internationally, cultivate public interest in music, advance music education, and facilitate cultural exchanges in music between Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and overseas, bringing the musical works of the Chinese nation to the international stage.
Organized by the Hong Kong Arts and Culture Orchestra Association, this year's festival will feature a series of musical activities, including a large-scale international music competition, classical music, and pop music carnivals. The highlight of the festival—the international music competition finals—will be held from the 25th to the 27th. The competition includes dozens of categories, such as strings, woodwinds, and piano, with participants ranging from preschoolers to children, youth, and young adults.
During the opening ceremony that evening, performances included the "Yellow River Piano Concerto" and the "Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto."
