According to the rankings on the Green Destinations website, the Azores, Cascais, Lagos, Zona Oeste/Socorro, Archeira (Torres Vedras), and Sintra have been listed as the most sustainable travel destinations globally. Among them, the Azores is considered the most sustainable travel destination in Europe, receiving a high score of 8.9 out of 10, while Cascais and Lagos also achieved high scores of 8.
Albert Salman, CEO of the website, stated in a press release: "The announcement of the world's 100 most eco-friendly destinations is to raise awareness of those travel destinations that are continuously making a significant difference."
Salman elaborated, "Measuring sustainability is not simple; it is not just black or white. The destinations recognized on this list are already on the right track, and the review opinions are from independent experts using objective standards."
The establishment of the "World's Top 100 Sustainable Destinations" aims to celebrate the management efforts of the most sustainable travel destinations in the world. This list was compiled in response to a public call on social media, with 30 international experts using 40 to 60 different rating indicators, such as nature, environmental quality and care, cultural heritage, social issues, green energy, and green tourism policies, to select the results.
