Recently, a new weight loss trend has emerged in Hong Kong, where some women aged 20 to 30 years old come to Sam Ka Village beach early in the morning, take off their shoes, put on sunglasses, set an alarm on their phones, and then start staring at the sun.
They firmly believe that by staring at the sun, they can burn off excess fat and achieve their weight loss goals. One participant in the weight loss program stated: "We replace eating with staring at the sun. Some of us have already completed the sun therapy, and now they eat less than before, with some even not needing to eat at all."
It is understood that newcomers to this group need to stare at the sun for 10 seconds on the first day, then increase by 10 seconds each day, until reaching 44 minutes of staring time after 9 months. In this regard, doctors warn that due to Hong Kong's subtropical climate, the seawater reflects sunlight, making prolonged sun gazing likely to cause damage to the eyes and skin.
