Known as the "Express Train to College Entrance," the Joint Entrance Exam for Overseas Chinese Students, officially titled the "Joint Entrance Examination for Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Students by Regular Higher Education Institutions of the People's Republic of China," is a specialized exam designed by the Chinese Ministry of Education for overseas Chinese and students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. It is the primary pathway for these students to apply to universities in mainland China, allowing them to easily gain admission to top-tier 985 and 211 universities and enjoy mainland higher education, which has become one of the motivations for many parents to plan their residency status.
The "2021 Prospectus for the Joint Entrance Examination for Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Students by Regular Higher Education Institutions of the People's Republic of China" has been released recently. The application requirements for the 2021 Joint Entrance Exam are as follows:
Individuals who meet one of the following conditions and possess a high school graduation level (must be formal academic education, Note 1) may apply for the Joint Entrance Examination for Regular Higher Education Institutions (hereinafter referred to as the National Joint Entrance Exam):
1. Overseas Chinese candidates: Both the candidate and one of their parents must have obtained long-term or permanent residency in the country of residence and have resided in that country for two consecutive years, with a cumulative stay of no less than 18 months within those two years. Specifically, the candidate must have actually resided in the country of residence for a cumulative total of no less than 18 months within the two years prior to registration (i.e., April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2021).
2. Hong Kong and Macao candidates: Must possess ① a "Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents" or a "Residence Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents," and ② a Hong Kong or Macao permanent resident identity card.
3. Taiwan candidates: Must possess ① a "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents" or a "Residence Permit for Taiwan Residents," and ② valid proof of identity for residence in Taiwan.

The admissions policy for the Joint Entrance Exam for Overseas Chinese students underwent major changes in 2019: It requires both the candidate and their parents to have obtained long-term or permanent residency abroad, and the candidate and one parent must have resided abroad for two consecutive years, with a cumulative stay of over 18 months, with the candidate's residency period being the two years prior to the application. To date, this policy has remained unchanged for three consecutive years.
However, there is good news for this year's Joint Entrance Exam: The Guangdong Education Examinations Authority previously issued a "Notice on the Revision of the National Joint Entrance Exam Syllabus," stating that the Ministry of Education's Examination Center has revised the syllabus for the Joint Entrance Examination for Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Students (2nd Edition), and the new syllabus will be implemented starting in 2021.

Overall, this revision increases the score weight of multiple-choice questions across all subjects in the Joint Entrance Exam, which significantly lowers the difficulty of the exam. The mathematics subject has also had some content removed. In general, the Joint Entrance Exam for Overseas Chinese students has become easier than before.
Compared to the regular Gaokao, the Joint Entrance Exam for Overseas Chinese students not only features simpler questions and lower admission score thresholds, but also has fewer applicants, meaning the annual enrollment quotas are never fully utilized! Furthermore, there are 336 regular higher education institutions in China that jointly recruit overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan students. Looking at the 2020 list, there are 130 undergraduate institutions that accepted students with a minimum score of 400. The list includes Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Renmin University of China, etc., covering almost all 985 and 211 universities.

Due to the significant advantages of being an overseas Chinese student, many domestic parents have seen the opportunity. To provide their children with overseas Chinese student status and allow them to easily pass the Joint Entrance Exam to attend top domestic universities, many parents choose to immigrate abroad. For example, investors can apply for the Portugal Golden Residence Permit for their entire family of three generations by purchasing property in urban renewal areas or properties over 30 years old and renovating them for a total value exceeding 350,000 Euros, or by purchasing real estate (including land, residential, or commercial properties) valued at no less than 500,000 Euros, thereby planning their children's future in advance.

In addition to the Portugal Golden Residence Permit program, the Greece investment immigration program is also a good choice. For instance, by investing in Greece, one only needs to purchase property valued at 250,000 Euros or more to apply for permanent residency in Greece for the entire family of three generations in one step, planning the children's future in advance.

In fact, whether it is buying property in Portugal or Greece for immigration, it is a single investment with multiple returns. Not only can you acquire property or land with permanent ownership, but you can also apply for permanent residency in an EU country for three generations of your family, allowing your family to enjoy an international European lifestyle at any time, and more importantly, giving your children the status of an overseas Chinese student to fulfill their dream of easily attending top domestic universities.
Worldway Group kindly reminds parents who intend to help their children enter top universities directly through the Joint Entrance Exam for Overseas Chinese students: Education immigration should be done early. Plan your status in advance to benefit sooner.
