According to reports from the European Union News Agency, American technology giant Microsoft recently announced that it will establish three data centers in Athens, Greece, with an investment amount of up to $1 billion. This is Microsoft's largest investment in Greece in nearly 28 years.
At the signing ceremony held at the Acropolis Museum in Athens, Microsoft and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis jointly announced this news. Prior to this, both parties had engaged in negotiations for nine months regarding this cooperation, which includes providing digital skills training programs for approximately 100,000 government and private sector employees, as well as educators and students.
Reports indicate that Microsoft currently has data centers in 26 countries, seven of which are located in the European Union. This cooperation is not Microsoft's first investment in Greece. Previously, Microsoft collaborated with the Greek government on an augmented reality project related to the birthplace of the Olympics, ancient Olympia.
Brad Smith, President of Microsoft, stated: "This significant investment reflects our confidence in the Greek economy, the Greek people, and the Greek government," emphasizing that Microsoft never acts hastily, and investing in Greece was a decision made after careful consideration.
Regarding the cooperation with Microsoft, Mitsotakis praised it as a "major innovative investment in the Greek economy," adding that it will make Greece a "global cloud computing center." He stated that this investment will undoubtedly enhance Greece's investment status globally and will also have spillover effects on the economy, benefiting small and medium-sized enterprises.
In fact, in recent years, as the Greek economy continues to recover, not only Microsoft is entering Greece, but many large Chinese enterprises are also making significant investments in Greece, such as Xiaomi, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, COSCO Shipping, State Grid Corporation of China, Alibaba, and Fosun Group, all of which have made substantial investments in Greece. Additionally, benefiting from Greece's Golden Visa policy, Greece has attracted an increasing number of international investors.
Currently, through the Greek Golden Visa program, investing in real estate starting from €250,000 not only allows three generations of the family to apply for Greek permanent residence visas and travel freely within 26 Schengen countries, but also enjoy social welfare benefits such as education and healthcare in Greece, and acquire property with permanent ownership in Greece, establishing a second home abroad, which is truly a win-win situation.
In 2020, the Greek government also introduced several favorable investment immigration policies for investors, such as simplifying the application process, shortening waiting times, and extending residence card validity, which has enhanced investors' confidence in the Greek immigration process. If you have needs related to health planning, education, retirement, or asset allocation, you must take action in advance. Now is the best time to invest in Greece!
