Good news! Cyprus has made further progress in joining Schengen
Cyprus's first step in the Schengen application has received EU assessment approval
Recently, the EU Schengen Committee announced that after examination and assessment, Cyprus has met the standards for joining the Schengen Area in terms of personal data protection.
The Cyprus Personal Data Protection Authority also issued a statement: "Following this positive development, it paves the way for assessments in other sectors, with the ultimate goal of Cyprus becoming an official Schengen member state."
In fact, since the Cypriot government submitted its application to join the Schengen Area in 2019, it has garnered much anticipation and attention. This time, Cyprus has passed the first step assessment of the Schengen application, marking a substantial step forward towards its membership in the Schengen states.
Cyprus's Schengen Application Process
1. In September 2019, for security reasons, the Cypriot government submitted its application to join the Schengen Area.
2. In November 2019, experts from the European Commission and EU member states' regulatory authorities visited Cyprus to officially initiate the first step assessment of the Schengen application, which involved evaluating the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection.
3. In July 2020, Cyprus's first step assessment met the standards, paving the way for subsequent evaluations.
The member states of the Schengen Agreement are also referred to as "Schengen countries" or "Schengen states," and the collective of member states is known as the "Schengen Area." The purpose of the Schengen Agreement is to eliminate border checkpoints between member states and to coordinate border control outside the Schengen Area. According to this agreement, travelers holding a valid visa from one of the countries can legally visit all other Schengen countries.
Traveling between Schengen countries by air is as easy as taking a domestic flight, with no need for immigration procedures.
Among the 27 EU member states, 22 countries have joined the Schengen Area. Cyprus, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Croatia have not yet joined the Schengen Area. In the future, once Cyprus successfully joins the Schengen countries, individuals holding Cypriot passports, permanent residency, and visas will be able to travel freely to other Schengen member states!
As a country poised to become one of the few that is a member of the European Union, Eurozone, Commonwealth, and Schengen Area, Cyprus's investment citizenship program has been highly sought after by high-net-worth individuals. Currently, through the Cyprus Investment Citizenship Program, investors can purchase properties in Cyprus starting from €2 million (whether one or multiple properties) and make a donation of €150,000, allowing three generations of the family to apply for a Cypriot EU passport.
The Asia Brand 500 WorldWay Group has maintained good interaction with the Cypriot government for many years. In 2011, it was one of the first to introduce the Cyprus Permanent Residency and Special Citizenship Program to China, initiating an exciting journey of European investment immigration; in 2014, the "Paphos Night" events in Beijing and Shanghai were investment and cultural exchange activities themed around European cities.
