The Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) is a tax-free benefit provided by the government for children under the age of 18. A child's first source of income is the so-called "Canada Child Benefit," which is paid monthly to each child based on family income.
To keep pace with the rising cost of living, the Canada Child Benefit has been increased once again. Starting in July 2020, each child under the age of 6 can receive up to 6,765 CAD, and each child between the ages of 6 and 17 can receive 5,708 CAD.

To apply for the Canada Child Benefit, you must meet the following conditions:
1. The guardian must live with the child under the age of 18;
2. The guardian must be the person primarily responsible for the care and upbringing of the child and must assume the responsibility for the child's care and upbringing;
3. The guardian must be a resident of Canada;
4. The guardian or the guardian's spouse or common-law partner must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or temporary resident who has lived in Canada for the past 18 months and has a valid permit in the 19th month.
Every July, the government calculates the benefit based on the previous year's net family income. For example, the benefit from July 2019 to June 2020 is calculated based on the 2018 net family income; the benefit from July 2020 to June 2021 is calculated based on the 2019 net family income. In other words, changes in your 2019 income will only be reflected in the Canada Child Benefit payments starting from July 2020.
In addition, children with disabilities may receive the Child Disability Benefit. From July 2019 to June 2020, each child eligible for the disability benefit can receive up to 2,832 CAD (236 CAD per month).
In recent years, many Chinese parents have chosen Canada as one of their preferred immigration destinations for their children's education. The main reason is that Canada is a paradise for children, not only because it has extremely strict and comprehensive laws protecting children, but also because it has superior policies regarding child welfare. In particular, the Canada Child Benefit makes raising children in Canadian families much easier, with almost no burden. More importantly, these child welfare policies are adjusted and increased in a timely manner based on social development, inflation, and other factors, which is the most thoughtful and humanistic approach by the Canadian government.
