Recently, the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF) released data on the Golden Visa program as of January 31, 2020. The data shows that since the launch of the Portugal Golden Residence Permit on October 8, 2012, the total investment has exceeded 5 billion euros, approximately 5.03 billion euros. Among these, real estate investment remains a popular choice, with an investment amount reaching 4.54 billion euros, accounting for about 90% of the total investment.
The data shows that as of January 31, 2020, a total of 8,288 families have applied for the Portugal Golden Residence Permit. Among all applicants, Chinese investors remain the majority, with 4,484 Chinese families applying for the Portugal Golden Residence Permit, indicating that the Portugal Golden Residence Permit continues to be favored by Chinese investors.
Important Notice: The highly sought-after Portugal Golden Residence Permit has undergone significant policy changes recently. The Portuguese Parliament has approved a proposal in the 2020 national budget to limit the issuance of the Portugal Golden Visa to real estate investments in inland cities or the Azores and Madeira archipelagos. In the future, purchasing property in Lisbon and Porto may no longer qualify for the Portugal Golden Residence Permit. This budget proposal has been passed by vote, meaning the government has the authority to modify the Portugal Golden Visa legislation at any time. However, it remains uncertain whether the government will actually amend the Golden Visa legislation. Therefore, for those interested in investment immigration, do not wait; apply early to benefit early.
