Canada has long been a country with a high national happiness index. Beyond its stunning natural scenery and enviable social benefits, the most important factor is that the 'Great White North' is highly inclusive of world cultures, making it one of the top choices for immigration. Therefore, whenever Canada's immigration policies are adjusted, it attracts global attention. Recently, news has emerged that new regulations for Canadian citizenship may be introduced, which is major good news for Chinese immigrants. Please join the editors at WorldWay Group to take a look.
Recently, it has been disclosed that the immigration department may expand the range of acceptable English proficiency proof documents for citizenship applicants. This includes incomplete bachelor's or diploma programs, which may now serve as proof of an applicant's English proficiency, with the goal of accelerating the processing speed of citizenship applications and improving service quality.
Existing Regulations: Permanent residents of Canada aged 18 to 54 must submit valid documents proving that their English or French proficiency has reached a certain level when applying for citizenship. Applicants may choose to submit one of the following three types of language proficiency proof:
1. Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Level 4 test scores;
2. IELTS scores equivalent to CLB Level 4;
3. Graduation certificates from secondary school, university, or college, provided that these courses were taught in English or French.
Latest Regulations: According to the latest internal work guidelines issued by the immigration department, when citizenship officers review citizenship applications, they may accept 'other proof' submitted by applicants in addition to the English proficiency documents currently listed in the guidelines.
'Other proof' includes:
1. Outdated language training;
2. Transcripts for a specific course;
3. Letters from representatives or instructors of an educational institution;
4. Documents indicating that a student has completed part of their university or college studies;
5. Degrees that do not indicate the completion of studies;
6. Foreign degrees that do not specify that the language of instruction was English or French.
By comparison, it can be seen that the new regulations relax the requirements for English, which is undoubtedly great news for the Chinese community. If the new regulations come into effect, there will be more options to prove one's language proficiency in the future, and the difficulty of obtaining citizenship will be significantly reduced!
