What taxes are generally required for U.S. investment immigration?
The amount varies depending on each family's income and the state in which they reside. Taking a family of three as an example for one year (including a husband and wife and a school-age child under 18, owning a home valued at $300,000) with an annual household income of $100,000: after deducting pension contributions, living expenses, mortgage interest, tuition, medical accounts, and health insurance, the actual taxable income is approximately $69,700. Of this, federal income tax is about $9,761, state income tax (using Minnesota as an example) is about $3,067, and property tax is about $6,000. The combined federal and state income tax is $12,828, accounting for 12.8% of the gross household income. If you add $6,200 for Social Security and $1,450 for Medicare, plus the $6,000 in property tax, the family pays a total of $26,478, which accounts for 26.48% of their gross income.
Federal income tax is determined based on the amount of personal income, the number of dependents in the household, and planned medical expenses, generally accounting for about 25% of wage income.
State taxes include income tax and sales tax. Income tax is paid to both the federal and state governments, and then divided between them. Each state and local government has different personal income tax rates, ranging from 0% (in Texas) to nearly 10% (in New York, California, etc.). Sales tax is a tax paid based on the amount of consumption; it is primarily levied by state and local governments and is deducted at the time of purchase.
Local tax, or property tax, is based on the value of the property and is paid once a year. Social Security and Medicare taxes must be paid by everyone who earns a wage and are deducted from each person's paycheck.
