As a kingdom of automobiles, the license plates in the United States are quite interesting. For new immigrants to the United States, this serves as a window to understand American history and culture. Generally, each state's license plates feature a phrase that summarizes the characteristics of that state, and vehicle owners can customize their plates according to their personalities. Among them, California's themed license plates are diverse and very famous. Recently, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced that the famous cartoon character Snoopy will be included in the California license plate designs, hoping to increase revenue from license plate manufacturing.
It is reported that California offers a wide variety of license plate designs. In addition to standard plates, the DMV currently provides up to 9 themed plates for the public to choose from, including pet lovers, agriculture, memorial, Yosemite, and more. After the addition of the "Snoopy" plate, there will be 10 themed plates available for selection.
Vehicle owners who wish to use themed plates must pay a special fee of 50 dollars, in addition to an annual renewal fee of 40 dollars. If they choose or create a custom license number, they will need to pay a special fee ranging from 49 to 78 dollars, with an annual renewal fee of 78 dollars.
According to reports, the California legislature has passed a bill allowing the fees from California license plates to be included as a source of revenue for cultural and historical funds to assist with the funding of California museums. The state assembly member who proposed this bill, Atkins, stated that Snoopy is part of the cultural identity and is the best ambassador for this initiative. The California Department of Motor Vehicles indicated that the application volume for the "Snoopy" plate must exceed 7500 units for it to go into mass production.
