2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan. The Hong Kong government attaches great importance to history education and has held numerous commemorative activities to pass on the spirit of the resistance. Beyond collecting, organizing, promoting, and disseminating the history of the resistance and establishing a permanent "Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance Against Japan," it held a launch ceremony yesterday (the 28th) for the "Commemorative Album for the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War: Remembering History & Cherishing Peace." This commemorative album is an excellent teaching resource for enhancing the sense of belonging among Hong Kong residents and Hong Kong immigrants, as well as for consolidating the strength of Hong Kong.
The commemorative album consists of 5 sections: "Commemorating the Resistance & Cherishing Peace," "National Resistance & Glorious History," "Anti-Fascist World Alliance," "Learning from History & Facing the Future," and "Exhibitions in Hong Kong & Commemorating the Resistance." Through a wealth of precious historical photographs, it reviews and recreates the entire process of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The album also showcases a series of commemorative activities held by the central government of China and the Hong Kong SAR government. The grand military parade held at Tiananmen Square in Beijing on September 3rd of this year to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War is included in the first section of the album.
This commemorative album was compiled and published through the collaboration of the Organizing Committee for Hong Kong Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Hong Kong Culture Association, and the Hong Kong Wen Wei Po. Yang Jian, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR, Song Ruan, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong SAR, as well as some Hong Kong deputies to the National People's Congress, members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and representatives of Hong Kong civil groups and organizations attended the launch ceremony.
Feng Yingbing, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Hong Kong Wen Wei Po, stated in his speech that it has been 18 years since Hong Kong's return to the motherland. Reviewing the arduous journey of the Chinese nation's suffering and rebirth holds significant practical meaning for Hong Kong to understand its own development direction and cherish the unique historical opportunities under the "One Country, Two Systems" framework.
Liu Yuxin, Director of the Organizing Committee for Hong Kong Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, pointed out that "history is the best textbook and also the best sobering agent," which every Chinese person should deeply remember and never forget. He stated that next year marks the beginning of the national "13th Five-Year Plan," and as long as Hong Kong leverages its role as a "super-connector," it will certainly be able to create a better future.
