This year marks significant progress in China-Europe relations, with China engaging in positive interactions with countries such as the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, reflecting a mutually beneficial development that aligns with the common interests of China and Europe. Cyprus hopes to continue playing a constructive role in promoting the development of China-Europe relations and to actively contribute to this process. The cooperation between Cyprus and China in the economic and trade sectors also holds great potential for development. Recently, after talks between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Cypriot Foreign Minister Kasoulides, it was stated that China hopes to establish an industrial development zone near the port of Limassol. The ongoing economic cooperation plans between Cyprus and China will benefit Cyprus Investment Immigration.
Wang Yi expressed that China appreciates Cyprus's consistent adherence to the One China policy and will continue to support Cyprus in maintaining its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He hopes that the Cyprus issue can be resolved fairly and reasonably through negotiations between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots based on relevant United Nations resolutions, and that China is willing to continue to play a constructive role in this regard. It is believed that with the resolution of the Cyprus issue, the potential and space for cooperation between China and Cyprus will be fully released, further promoting the development of Cyprus and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields. China supports Cyprus's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and is willing to actively explore mutually beneficial cooperation with Cyprus in areas such as maritime transport, ports, infrastructure, oil and gas development, tourism, and agriculture. China will continue to promote strong Chinese enterprises to invest and cooperate in Cyprus.
Kasoulides stated that Cyprus places great importance on its relationship with China and has a profound understanding of the significance of the political relationship between the two countries. Cyprus adheres to the One China policy and opposes any actions that would divide the country. I fully agree with what you said; the cooperation between Cyprus and China, especially in the economic and trade sectors, has enormous potential and space. Cyprus is willing to fully leverage its geographical and locational advantages, actively support and participate in China's Belt and Road Initiative, and work together with China to explore cooperation in maritime transport, ports, infrastructure, oil and gas development, tourism, and agriculture, as well as strengthen exchanges and cooperation in education and culture. We welcome more Chinese enterprises and citizens to invest and travel in Cyprus.
Earlier this year, Cyprus had called for bids to find a new operator to manage the largest port in the town of Limassol. Cyprus hopes to transform it into a container hub and a port for cruise ships.
Cyprus's Foreign Minister Kasoulides stated that he conveyed the "greatest hope" of the Cypriot government that a Chinese company would win the bid.
Kasoulides pointed out that the China Ocean Shipping Company has "successfully participated" in the project of the main port of Piraeus in Greece, where two of the three container terminals have received operating licenses.
Wang Yi stated that both China and Cyprus have established solid political mutual trust and deep friendship. China regards Cyprus as a trustworthy friend and partner within the European Union. The greatest characteristic of China-Cyprus relations is mutual understanding and support for each other's core interests and major concerns. The two sides also maintain communication and coordination on major international and regional issues. China appreciates the repeated facilitation and assistance provided by Cyprus for Chinese vessels participating in the maritime escort mission for the transportation of chemical weapons from Syria.
