On October 9, World Post Day, the Director General of the Guinea-Bissau Postal Service, Filomeno, announced that the country is preparing to formulate relevant preferential legal policies to encourage the development of the postal sector, including the establishment of a postal regulatory authority to break the monopoly of public services and attract more private enterprises to participate in public services.
Filomeno stated that there are a total of 33 postal branches nationwide, but currently only one branch in the capital is operational, while the others are closed due to a lack of funding. Therefore, the Guinea-Bissau Postal Service needs to establish funding channels to attract foreign investment to improve work efficiency and meet customer needs. Filomeno suggested that for low-income individuals or those living in remote areas, the postal service could provide financial services, such as disbursing salaries, subsidies, and pensions through postal savings and postal transfers.
Filomeno finally encouraged postal employees to continue to uphold the spirit of dedication to their work, serving the public selflessly, and to better serve the people of Guinea-Bissau.
October 9, 1874, marks the first World Post Day, as global postal services have evolved from carrier pigeons and landline telephones to the current internet era.
