U.S. Immigration Focus on Life in the U.S.: According to a report by the World Journal, with a simple tap on the mobile application Grue, students can easily view and search for club activities of interest at the University of California, Berkeley, without having to search aimlessly.
You Yi, a junior at the University of California, Berkeley, said that he and four classmates developed this program to bridge the gap between campus clubs and student needs, making it easier for clubs to recruit members and for students to save time finding activities.
There are about 1,000 clubs at the university in total. To find a photography club, You Yi went to great lengths, searching online, asking seniors, and paying special attention to club orientation days. "I spent almost two semesters looking, only to find that such a prestigious institution didn't have a dedicated photography club, just some photography teams for campus magazines. I later co-founded a club with classmates to exchange photography and other arts. In fact, the school has a website for club information, but the user experience is poor, so no one uses it. If the school had a better platform for finding information, perhaps we wouldn't have wasted so much time, and my club would have been established much earlier."
You Yi subsequently discussed this with his classmates and found they had similar experiences. "Why not create an App specifically to serve students and publish information on club activities?" With this idea, the five of them hit it off immediately. Some were responsible for technology, others for design, and they finally released Grue in early September.
You Yi said that after one week of testing Grue, it already had hundreds of users relying solely on promotion by classmates, and some clubs even took the initiative to reach out and request to push their information.
You Yi stated that they are currently improving the product's user experience to give Grue more in-depth social functions, and it could also help with job hunting. "We will launch it on a larger scale next semester and do more marketing activities, such as distributing flyers and holding prize-based fan recruitment events. In the long term, we hope to build brand awareness across some campuses in California. This is a practice of entrepreneurship, and we will persist."
