Hong Kong immigration focuses on business immigration in Hong Kong: A survey released yesterday by Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited shows that while over sixty percent of respondents expect the Renminbi to continue depreciating in the next 12 months, more than seventy percent of respondents indicated that they would not reduce their holdings in Renminbi assets.
Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited conducted a market survey from August 14 to 22, during a period of significant fluctuations in the mainland stock market and depreciation of the Renminbi, to understand the investment orientation of Hong Kong investors towards Renminbi assets.
Liu Jianheng, Senior Economist at Standard Chartered Hong Kong, stated that the survey was conducted after the People's Bank of China significantly lowered the Renminbi's midpoint against the US dollar on August 11, reflecting investors' orientation after the substantial depreciation of the Renminbi. As expected, respondents have become more cautious about the Renminbi's prospects, with 64% of respondents expecting the Renminbi to continue depreciating in the next 12 months, a significant increase compared to the same period last year; among investors who already hold Renminbi products, over seventy percent of respondents indicated that they plan to continue holding or increase their holdings in Renminbi assets in the next 12 months.
Liu Jianheng also noted that the survey showed that as many as 83% of investors believe that a balanced investment portfolio can include investments in the Chinese market, and 76% of respondents hope to capture the numerous investment opportunities and potential returns brought about by China's economic reforms. This result reflects that respondents still have confidence in the Chinese market and are aware of the needs and opportunities for investing in the mainland.
