According to a report by Hong Kong's Ta Kung Pao, it takes approximately ten minutes to walk from Kowloon Station to the West Kowloon Cultural District, a journey that is often subjected to the elements. To facilitate visitors and residents traveling to the West Kowloon Cultural District, the West Kowloon Authority plans to build a pedestrian bridge that will span West Kowloon, connecting the Xiqu Centre and the Elements shopping mall, ensuring pedestrians can pass directly through the mall to access the West Kowloon M+ Museum, the Art and Cultural Centre, West Kowloon Park, and the waterfront promenade, among other facilities.
Recently, the design of the pedestrian bridge was unveiled, showcasing a fashionable design that emphasizes visual interplay. Unlike typical pedestrian bridge styles, this bridge will be completely covered, featuring a louvered design that is expected to provide ventilation.
The West Kowloon Authority indicated that construction of the bridge is expected to commence in the third quarter of next year, with phased completion anticipated in 2019.
