The monkeys on the Caribbean Island of St. Kitts have a penchant for drinking alcohol. These alcohol-loving monkeys often "raid" the bars on the island to satisfy their thirst for drinks. Some tourists have even captured amusing videos of monkeys holding glasses and drinking.
Due to their frequent consumption of fermented fruits, these monkeys have gradually developed a "talent" for tasting alcohol. It is reported that the BBC has filmed a documentary about how these monkeys steal drinks from beachgoers.
Of course, not all monkeys on the island are alcohol enthusiasts; some prefer non-alcoholic beverages. It is said that the ratio of monkeys that do not drink to those that do on St. Kitts is comparable to that of humans who abstain from alcohol versus those who consume it. Like humans, monkeys that drink too much also stumble when they walk.
It is reported that the monkeys currently on St. Kitts were brought over 300 years ago by slaves from West Africa. They were transported to the island to work in the local distilleries.
