U.S. Immigration focuses on Life in the U.S.: The phrase "My Dad is Li Gang" has long become a popular saying in China, mocking the arrogant "second-generation officials" or "second-generation rich," and reflects the current situation in China. However, "My Dad is Li Gang" is utterly ineffective in the United States. Recently, a 19-year-old international student from China was arrested in upstate New York for reckless speeding in a luxury car and was charged in criminal court.

It is no longer news that young international students from China drive luxury cars and speed across various locations in the United States, often causing accidents. On October 1, 19-year-old Zeguang Xu, a Chinese student at Boston University, was arrested for driving a Maserati at 100 miles per hour in a densely populated area of Boston's Back Bay, where the speed limit is 30 miles per hour. He was subsequently charged with driving without a license, speeding, using a false name, failing to stop, and reckless driving in Boston Municipal Court.
In fact, this is just one example reported by the media of the wealthy second-generation from China "bringing glory to the country" abroad, while similar cases continue to emerge unnoticed. A knowledgeable legal professional from Brooklyn recounted a similar incident that occurred recently in upstate New York.
It is reported that the protagonist of this incident is also a 19-year-old international student from China. After studying in New York for a year, he drove a Porsche to a university in upstate New York in mid-September. On a highway with a speed limit of 65 miles per hour, he astonishingly drove at 96 miles per hour, resulting in a police interception.
Upon stopping him, the police discovered that the student's New York driver's license had been revoked due to multiple serious violations, accumulating over 20 points, far exceeding the allowable 12 points. He was driving without a license and was also severely speeding, and his reckless driving behavior posed a potential danger to others' lives. Therefore, the police arrested him on the spot and filed multiple criminal charges against him.
This legal professional stated that after receiving a request for help from the student's family, he assisted in finding a criminal lawyer to represent the student in court. Regarding such cases, this legal professional noted that many young international students coming to study in the U.S. still hold the mindset of "My Dad is Li Gang," believing that they can resolve issues through money or power. However, this approach does not work in the United States. If the individual attempts to bribe the police at the scene, they will certainly be arrested and face additional charges.
This legal professional emphasized that according to U.S. law, when driving on the road, one must have all three documents in order: a driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. If any of these three documents are missing, the police will arrest the driver on the spot and refer the case for prosecution. Having an arrest record can affect the individual's future employment after graduation.
If a driver is stopped by the police and forgets to bring one of the required documents, the police will generally issue a ticket on the spot. However, the driver can return home, make a copy of the forgotten document, and send it to the relevant law enforcement agency, which will result in the cancellation of the ticket.
