At the press conference, the founding president, president, vice president, and other members of the Jiangmen Wuyi Youth Association were present. It was introduced that the association was registered in Toronto in October 2013, established its constitution, formed a board of directors, and determined its location. The grand opening ceremony will be held in Toronto on April 23, 2014. It is known that officials from the Jiangmen City Government in Guangdong Province, representatives from the Greater Toronto Area's overseas Chinese community and local government, as well as guests from the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto, will attend the inauguration ceremony.
The press conference introduced that the purpose of the Jiangmen Wuyi Youth Association is to connect the Wuyi youth in Toronto and serve the Jiangmen Wuyi compatriots in Toronto. The association also aims to build a platform for the youth, overseas Chinese community, and businesses from Jiangmen Wuyi, China, to communicate and serve with the youth in Toronto.
One of the founding presidents, Tang Youzhi, stated that the association has been in preparation since 2012, initially with three founders. It was established in response to the Jiangmen World Youth Conference held every two years in Jiangmen, with hopes that after the establishment of the Jiangmen Wuyi Youth Association in Canada, there will be opportunities to invite the Jiangmen World Youth Conference to be held in North America in the future.
Jiangmen Wuyi Youth Association President Zhu Weibang mentioned in an interview that the association currently has about 50 officially registered members, with a goal of reaching around 1,000 members in 2014.
Jiangmen is a well-known overseas Chinese hometown in China. Tang Youzhi indicated that there are over 4 million overseas Chinese from Jiangmen. He also revealed that on the day of the association's establishment, the visiting officials from the Jiangmen City Government will sign an agreement with the City of Markham in the Greater Toronto Area to establish a sister city relationship.
