Recently, the international authority Henley & Partners published the latest edition of the Henley Passport Index 2025, which provides an authoritative ranking of global passport 'value' based on the number of countries and regions that passport holders can enter visa-free, with visa on arrival, or with an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).
This data covers 199 passports and 227 destinations, reflecting the real-time mobility of passport holders from various countries.
European Passports Remain in the Lead
Collectively Demonstrating 'Identity Value'
European countries continue to perform strongly on the list, securing places in the top ten. For example, several high-mobility passports appear in a tie for 6th place:
Portugal, Greece, etc.—visa-free or visa on arrival access to 186 countries and regions.
This means that citizens holding passports from these countries can almost 'travel freely across the globe', easily shuttling between major economies in the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.
This indicates that citizens holding European passports enjoy a high level of travel convenience worldwide. The strong economic power, stable political environment, and good international relations of European countries encourage other nations to offer more visa-free or visa on arrival privileges to European citizens.
The True Value of a Passport:
Global Freedom of Travel, Education, and Assets
• Freedom of movement allows the world to become a radius of life: Holding an EU passport allows visa-free entry to nearly 190 destinations, from the European Schengen Area to major countries in Asia and the Americas, without lengthy visa processes. For entrepreneurs and families who travel frequently, this means more efficient use of time and global mobility.
• Educational benefits allow children to enter prestigious schools with local status: Families holding EU passports can have their children study as local students at universities in Germany, France, and other countries, with low tuition fees and significant admission advantages. The combination of educational quality and international recognition is a key consideration for long-term identity planning.
• Global asset allocation, mobility equals investment capability: Investors holding EU passports can freely enter the European Single Market, establish businesses, purchase real estate, and carry out cross-border financial management. Living, working, and investing within the Schengen Area enables effective asset allocation.
Supported by Multinational Policies,
The Popularity of European Identity Continues to Rise
Currently, several European countries are attracting the attention of high-net-worth individuals worldwide with open investment policies and high-quality living environments. Projects in Portugal, Cyprus, Malta, Greece, etc., each have their own characteristics, offering flexible residence options and long-term planning for EU citizenship, all providing robust and high-value choices for families looking to establish global identities.
