Follow Hong Kong Immigration and Hong Kong Life: October 16th is "World Food Day." Hong Kong International Airport has launched a "Meat-Free" campaign, encouraging airport restaurants to offer vegetarian menus, with 57 airport restaurants and lounges taking the lead in responding.

These participating airport restaurants and lounges have pledged to provide vegetarian menus on Mondays, or even daily. Yau Shing-mu, Under Secretary for Transport and Housing of the Hong Kong SAR Government, stated at the launch ceremony that Hong Kong International Airport serves as Hong Kong's gateway to the world. He believes that promoting environmental protection and healthy eating culture at the airport will provide global travelers with a brand-new airport experience and significantly enhance Hong Kong's environmental image.
This "Meat-Free" campaign, announced on "World Food Day," is co-organized by the Airport Authority Hong Kong and the social enterprise "Green Monday."
Green Monday founder David Yeung stated that this is in response to the 2013 theme of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization: "Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition." He noted that modern lifestyles have a severe impact on the ecological environment and global resources. Eating vegetarian once a week, consuming less meat and more vegetables, and cherishing food are simple and easy methods that everyone can adopt, and he hopes more people will join this movement.
According to estimates by the organizers, if travelers choose vegetarian meals every Monday, it could reduce carbon emissions by over 4,000 tons per year.
