Follow Canada Immigration and Canada News: Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada, and James Moore, Minister of Industry and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, jointly announced that Vancouver Shipyards, a subsidiary of Seaspan, has been awarded a contract by the Canadian Coast Guard for 10 non-combat vessels. This contract for 10 non-combat vessels includes five medium-endurance multi-task vessels and five offshore patrol ships, with an estimated total value of $3.3 billion.

Since being awarded a contract for seven non-combat vessels on October 19, 2011—including two naval supply ships, one icebreaker, and four scientific research and fisheries vessels—Vancouver Shipyards has now secured a total of 17 non-combat vessel orders from the Canadian Coast Guard.
Currently, Vancouver Shipyards is undergoing a shipyard modernization project to transform the facility into a world-class shipbuilding and ship repair center on Canada's West Coast.
