Follow Cyprus Immigration and Cyprus Law: On February 6, 2001, the Minister of Interior of the Cyprus government announced new regulations to strengthen the management of foreign students studying in Cyprus.

The Minister of Interior announced that some foreign students studying at certain higher education institutions in Cyprus are either not attending classes regularly, not attending classes at all, or have gone into hiding. Although some measures have been taken and some management has been implemented, it is still necessary to conduct a comprehensive review today. We have decided to adopt some new measures.
First, the Immigration Department and the Ministry of Education will conduct weekly inspections of all schools to determine whether foreign students are attending classes regularly;
Second, the prepaid registration and accommodation fees, or bank guarantees (including tuition and accommodation fees) that foreign students must bring to Cyprus will be increased from the current 1,000 Cyprus pounds to 2,000 Cyprus pounds.
These two regulations will be implemented starting March 1.
The Minister of Education emphasized that Cyprus recruits students, not illegal workers.
