Follow Canada Investment Immigration and Canadian Life: September 29th is International Coffee Day, yet coffee-loving Canadians have not officially designated it as a statutory holiday. According to statistics, 80% of Canadian adults drink a cup of coffee every day, consuming 2.1 billion cups annually outside the home, with a total expenditure of $6 billion. Their love for coffee is second only to Italy, ranking them second in the world.

A recent survey report by market research firm NPD Group shows that eight out of every ten Canadian adults drink a cup of coffee daily, and 40% consume multiple cups. This data only accounts for "consumption outside the home"; it is understood that 63% of coffee is actually consumed at home.
Robert Carter, Executive Director of Foodservice at NPD, described Canadians' love for coffee as "crazy," stating, "We sell 2.1 billion cups of coffee annually, generating $6 billion in revenue, and this does not include the amount consumed at home." This makes coffee the product with the highest consumption volume in the domestic food and beverage market.
Coffee-loving Canadians also tend to "keep it local" when it comes to their choices; statistics show that eight out of every ten cups of coffee sold in the country come from the domestic coffee chain brand Tim Hortons. The total number of customers served by this chain in one week exceeds the annual visitor volume of Disney's Magic Kingdom.
This massive figure is not expected to show a downward trend in the short term. In fact, the latest NPD poll indicates that 39% of young people aged 18 to 24, and 16% of coffee consumers, stated they would increase their coffee consumption next year.
