Those considering investment immigration to Spain should understand the following about Spain:
The current currency in circulation is the Euro (€): one Euro equals 100 cents. Euro banknotes are issued in denominations of 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10, and 5 Euros, while coins are issued in 2 and 1 Euro, and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2, and 1 cent denominations.
The Euro officially entered circulation on January 1, 2002. As of 2010, the Eurozone consisted of 15 countries: Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Italy, Finland, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, and Malta. Currently, 1 Euro is equivalent to approximately 10 Chinese Yuan (exchange rates are subject to fluctuation at any time).
Currency can be exchanged at airports, banks, travel agencies, and major hotels, with the latter typically offering the least favorable rates. It is always a good idea to carry some foreign currency while traveling and to exchange some Euros before visiting Spain; this is highly recommended if you are arriving from a country that does not use the Euro.
