Onyx Solar stated that the skylight is equipped with 820 photovoltaic modules, sufficient to meet the energy needs of 600 households, making it the largest photovoltaic skylight in the world.
Onyx Solar utilizes large-format modules equipped with crystalline silicon perforated photovoltaic cells. Given the high fragility of the cells, such materials make the entire production process more complex. However, the various branches present a more uniform appearance—the cells can diffuse more natural light, thereby enhancing indoor lighting, controlling temperature, and producing clean energy.
The skylight required by Novartis also needed to have an opening function for maintenance purposes, which undoubtedly increased the installation difficulty for Onyx Solar. Onyx Solar manager Juan Luis Lechon stated: "This project was a challenge; the entire solution, from the production of the photovoltaic glass to the installation, involved a certain degree of difficulty."
Onyx Solar Chief Technology Officer Teodosio del Cano praised the team's professionalism and vision, stating: "Despite the complexity of the project, our team still demonstrated an outstanding level of technical expertise and successfully completed the task."
