Follow Canadian Immigration and Canadian Economy: According to the website of Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will hold talks with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper on the 24th to discuss the import of shale gas from Canada.

The imports are expected to begin in 2019, making Canada the second country, following the United States in 2017, to reach an import agreement with Japan. Japan hopes to reduce import costs by diversifying its import channels.
It is reported that in addition to establishing ministerial-level meetings between the two countries, the leaders will also discuss the following issues: (1) the construction of pipelines from shale gas fields to ports and liquefied natural gas facilities; (2) obtaining export licenses from the National Energy Board of Canada; and (3) establishing a financial support framework for shale gas extraction projects. Relevant agreements are expected to be reached within the year.
