The much-anticipated "price hike" of Canada's new immigration policy has been settled following the implementation of the new regulations on December 1st.
Compared to the previous policy, the federal investment immigration program has increased the net worth requirement for applicants from 800,000 CAD to 1.6 million CAD. The investment amount has been raised from 400,000 CAD to 800,000 CAD, with the investment term remaining at 5 years, after which the principal is returned. Regarding investment methods, in addition to the 800,000 CAD five-year option, applicants may also choose a one-time payment of 220,000 CAD, which is non-refundable.
In terms of net worth and investment amount, the new policy has effectively doubled the costs. However, the immigration authorities have also stated that after the implementation of the new policy, they plan to process applications under the current investment immigration policy and the "new policy" at a ratio of 2:1. This means that Canadian immigration authorities will prioritize and accelerate the processing of applications submitted under the new policy. This change is a significant benefit for high-net-worth individuals seeking immigration.
Additionally, some Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) have attracted significant attention due to their high cost-effectiveness, undoubtedly providing more options for those wishing to immigrate to Canada. For example, Saskatchewan, one of the provinces with the most abundant resources, the highest per capita resource ownership, and the strongest economic strength in Canada, only requires applicants to have a net worth of 300,000 CAD and an investment of 150,000 CAD.
As the financial crisis recedes, the global economy is moving toward recovery. According to a Reuters report in September of this year, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Canada to be one of the strongest economies among the G7 nations (which include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States) in terms of economic recovery in 2010. At this moment, investing in Canadian immigration is undoubtedly a successful choice.
