The standard of healthcare in Cyprus is generally quite good. Public hospitals are available in every city. Public hospitals provide free emergency treatment to everyone (whether they are citizens or foreigners, and regardless of whether the foreigner has permanent residency status). Further treatment and inpatient care are free for citizens and Cyprus permanent residents holding an EU passport.

Most Cyprus permanent residents holding non-EU passports (such as Russians) choose to visit private clinics and purchase corresponding medical insurance. Most middle-class or higher-income Cypriots also choose to seek medical treatment at private clinics. Outpatient fees at private clinics are relatively expensive, generally between 20-50 Euros per visit, but medicine is separated from medical services, and there are numerous pharmacies with reasonable prices.
There are many insurance companies in Cyprus that offer a wide variety of insurance products, among which Atlantic Insurance specializes in serving permanent residents and temporary residents. Taking two types of insurance from this company as examples, we can outline the compensation and fee standards for medical insurance in Cyprus:
Taking a 60-year-old male and a 56-year-old female as examples (both with no pre-existing medical conditions), the younger the applicant, the lower the premium:
1. Standard Level Medical Insurance:
For a 60-year-old male, the annual premium is around 280 Euros; for a 56-year-old female, it is slightly lower, around 260 Euros. The compensation that the policyholder can receive under this insurance is: 70 Euros/day for hospitalization, 175 Euros/day if the patient enters the intensive care unit, with an annual total compensation cap of 13,700 Euros; 15 Euros per outpatient visit, with outpatient medication reimbursed at 90%, and an annual outpatient compensation cap of 685 Euros. In addition, if the policyholder passes away, the insurance company will also pay 3,420 Euros for the repatriation of the policyholder's remains to their home country.
2. Premium Level Medical Insurance:
The annual premium for both 60-year-old males and females is 1,525 Euros. The compensation cap for the policyholder under this insurance is 1 million Euros per year.
