When immigrating to Singapore, it is important to understand the advantages of Singaporean education: Singapore Management University (SMU), established on January 12, 2000, is the third public university funded by the Singaporean government. It is a premier Asian institution renowned for its world-class research and excellence in teaching.
Advanced Educational System
Adopting an American-style pedagogical approach, the entire education system develops and influences an individual's comprehensive qualities, including intellect, values, psychological resilience, and personality. The university implements small-class teaching; students can cross school boundaries to select subjects suitable for them, pursue a second major, and high-performing students may choose to pursue a double degree.
Teaching Methodology
All courses at Singapore Management University are presented in a seminar format to promote interaction between faculty and students and to encourage independent thinking. This teaching method effectively enhances students' communication and presentation skills while also fostering team-building spirit. SMU's interactive teaching style cultivates students who are "bold, confident, and articulate," while promoting a "trendy, cool, and fun" image. SMU exclusively uses small-class teaching, with 12-40 students per class, facilitating more effective interaction between faculty and students.
Faculty
Singapore Management University boasts a first-class faculty, with over 80% of SMU professors holding doctoral degrees from Ivy League institutions and other world-renowned universities. In addition to top-tier academic staff, Singapore Management University also invites industry professionals with unique expertise and successful management skills to closely integrate academic research with business practice. All courses at Singapore Management University are presented in a seminar format to promote interaction between faculty and students and to encourage independent thinking. The language of instruction at Singapore Management University is English.
Currently, Singapore Management University has a total student body of approximately 8,000, distributed across six schools—the School of Accountancy, the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, the School of Economics, the School of Computing and Information Systems, the Yong Pung How School of Law, and the School of Social Sciences—offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs in business and other disciplines.

Singapore Management University strongly encourages students to participate in overseas exchange programs for up to one year, starting from their sophomore year. Students can choose from 216 prestigious institutions across 46 countries and four continents (including the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon University, and Emory University in the USA; Waseda University and Keio University in Japan; the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales in Australia; the University of Manchester and the University of Bath in the UK; Queen's University, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Victoria in Canada; Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Xiamen University, Sun Yat-sen University, Nankai University, Wuhan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China; and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University [1], among others). Students gain valuable life experience from different learning and living environments. Furthermore, students continue to pay SMU tuition fees during their overseas exchange period.
Eclectic Curriculum Combining Arts and Sciences
The university advocates that "intelligence integrates with emotional intelligence." Regardless of the degree program, students can select general education courses from a wide range of subjects including arts and sciences, international and regional studies, technology, and entrepreneurial skills to broaden their general knowledge and expand their horizons.
Practical Career Counseling and Internship Programs
SMU arranges a 12-week internship program for all students: 10 weeks of work at established enterprises and 2 weeks of volunteer work at charitable organizations, laying the foundation for students' future employment.
University Language Training
The university provides a 6-month English preparatory course to address students' language needs, for which the Singaporean government provides a 70% tuition subsidy.
Tuition Subsidy
The government provides a 65% tuition subsidy, which every Chinese student can apply for and receive. Students who receive the government tuition subsidy are required to work in Singapore for three years (in a paid position) upon completion of their studies, in accordance with Singaporean government regulations.
At Singapore Management University, outstanding students have the opportunity to receive generous scholarships. Additionally, students may apply for legal permission to work part-time while studying at the university.
