U.S. President Barack Obama pledged in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on September 23 that the G20 summit held in Pittsburgh this week would be committed to fostering balanced and sustainable economic growth. He also stated the need to strengthen financial regulation to end the greed, excess, and abuse that triggered the financial crisis.
Obama stated that the United States will work with several of the world's largest economies to develop measures for balanced and sustainable economic growth. He also pledged to strive to create jobs and promote a recovery in demand.
He pointed out that this means establishing new rules for future development and strengthening oversight of all financial centers to end the risky behaviors of greed, excess, and abuse that led to the crisis, and to prevent such crises from happening again.
