In recent years, more and more parents have chosen to immigrate to Cyprus for the sake of their children, and as a result, the issue of education in Cyprus has gradually become a focus of attention.

Cyprus is a major educational hub in the eastern Mediterranean, and its education system is aligned with EU standards and regulations. Spending on education accounts for 8% of its GDP, making it the country with the second-highest per capita education level in Europe, surpassing the European average of 5.4% and ranking ahead of Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Switzerland.
Schools in Cyprus are divided into public and private institutions. In terms of the academic system, public schools provide 12 years of free compulsory education—six years of primary school and six years of secondary school—which is somewhat similar to the Chinese system. Public schools teach in Greek while also offering instruction in English, French, and Russian. Private schools teach in English, and teachers are required to hold British teaching qualifications to be employed. It is worth mentioning that most teachers in middle and high schools hold degrees from prestigious British and American universities, and most faculty members have received professional training in developed European countries and the United States.
Many private schools are founded by the British, allowing children to receive the most authentic English-language education. International schools offer international high school curricula, such as the British A-level and IB programs. These international high school qualifications are recognized by universities worldwide, and graduates can apply to most internationally renowned universities. Some schools in Cyprus have become feeder schools for the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge. Most students go on to study at universities in the UK and the US after graduation.
Universities in Cyprus are primarily private, offering a comprehensive range of majors and operating on a credit system. Students can earn the corresponding degree once they have completed the required credits. The level of internationalization is high, with mutual recognition of credits and degrees with many universities in countries such as the UK and the US, and transfers between schools are unrestricted.
There are 25 English-language schools in Cyprus that grant internationally recognized degrees. Locally, some universities have joint programs with British and American schools, implementing a 2+2 academic system, allowing students to obtain British or American degrees directly upon graduation. Consequently, 80% of local young people have experience studying at British or American universities. Many graduates from the UK and the US also view Cyprus, a tourist destination, as an ideal place to work, and many locals in Cyprus hold degrees from prestigious British and American institutions such as Cambridge and Caltech.
At the same time, Cyprus was among the first group of 10 countries whose school lists were published by the Ministry of Education of China. These 10 countries are: the United States, Cyprus, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Greece, the Netherlands, Ireland, Malaysia, Norway, and South Africa. Countries we are familiar with, such as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, were in the second batch announced.
Due to the government's high regard for education and the formulation of reasonable policies, Cyprus has achieved the remarkable result of ranking third in the world for the number of people with higher education (60% bachelor's degrees, 50% master's degrees). This population proportion is the highest in Europe, second only to the United States and Canada.
While aristocratic-style education is one of the major advantages of schools in Cyprus, affordable tuition is another significant benefit.
In Cyprus, all citizens who have obtained permanent residency can enjoy high-quality EU public education for free. Even when attending private schools, tuition fees are equivalent to half the cost of those in Europe, the US, or China. The general fee structure for private schools is as follows: kindergarten fees are approximately 1,500-4,000 Euros/year; primary school fees are 5,000-5,500 Euros/year; and secondary school fees are 6,000-8,000 Euros/year. Universities and colleges require about 16 credits per year, with each credit costing over 300 Euros, totaling approximately 5,000-9,000 Euros in annual tuition.
For those who choose to immigrate to Cyprus for educational purposes, once children obtain permanent residency in Cyprus along with their parents, they can not only receive a good education in Cyprus but also enjoy the same tuition fee treatment as local Cypriot students. Furthermore, after obtaining citizenship, children can hold an EU passport and receive higher education in any EU country without any restrictions. As they grow up, they can also choose to work in any EU country without being constrained by work visas or permits.
Cyprus not only offers world-class education but also possesses simple folk customs, sunshine, beaches, and the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature... Bringing all of this into a child's childhood memories is a beautiful asset for them when they grow into adulthood.
