Foreign Name: Nevis Peak
Reason to Visit: The volcano most suitable for sugarcane cultivation
Continent: North America
Country/Region: Saint Kitts and Nevis
Parish: Saint George Gingerland Parish
Attraction Type: Mountain
Introduction:
Nevis Peak is located in the center of Nevis Island in the West Indies. It is a potentially active volcano that stands at 3,232 feet (985 meters). There have been no recorded volcanic eruptions in history, but there are some active fumaroles and hot springs on the coastal slopes of the island, which represent low-level volcanic activity.
In the steeper parts of Nevis Peak, farming is impossible. Even at altitudes where land could be cultivated, because every piece of usable land is planted with sugarcane, this mountain, which occupies a large area of the island, has not been truly altered, and most of the original flora and fauna remain intact. At lower elevations, there are dry and moist forests, while the areas above the rainforest and the mountain summit are mostly shrouded in clouds. Visitors can hike to the summit, but some sections are very challenging and require good physical condition to complete. For safety reasons, it is recommended to hire a guide. When the summit is clear of clouds, you can see spectacular views from the top, not only of Nevis itself but also of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
