Since Saint Kitts and Nevis investment immigration entered the Chinese market, news about Saint Kitts has instantly become a hot topic in online searches. According to reports on July 30, Beijing time, the Caribbean island nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis announced that its only female athlete at this year's Olympic Games, Tameka Williams, has been sent back to her home country. The 22-year-old sprinter is the national record holder for Saint Kitts and Nevis in the 100-meter and 200-meter events. Although she passed routine drug tests, she inadvertently revealed during a routine medication inquiry that she had been taking a substance containing prohibited ingredients, which led to her being sent away from London.
“We require every athlete to report to their superiors exactly what vitamins or nutritional supplements they are taking,” said Dennis Knight, Vice President of the Saint Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee. “This is our country's requirement for every athlete. It was during a routine training session when asked this question that Williams revealed she had been taking a prohibited substance.” Knight added: “We sent professionals to question the athletes, and it was during this questioning process that Williams told us she had been taking this medication.”
Saint Kitts and Nevis has reported this matter to the International Olympic Committee's anti-doping agency, stating that they “will step forward to do what is necessary.” As a Caribbean island nation, Saint Kitts and Nevis had only seven athletes competing in this year's Olympics, and Williams was the only woman. Williams appeared with the team at the opening ceremony, but was ordered to return home the following day. Knight also revealed that Williams had actually passed her routine drug test in June.
“She is only 22 years old, and her career has been very smooth so far. I think she can participate in at least two more Olympic Games in the future. Therefore, I believe we must help her extend her professional career as much as possible. Although she may not agree with our actions at this moment,” Knight added, “Of course, we will continue to investigate this matter. We need to determine if she was only taking this one medication, and whether anyone else was involved. Only by clarifying the ins and outs of the matter can we take the next steps.”
