Immigrate to Vanuatu focus on Vanuatu News: After intense competition and 8 rounds of voting by the electoral college, Baldwin Lonsdale was elected as the new President of the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on September 22, 2014.

Lonsdale is from the northern province of Torba in Vanuatu and was sworn into office on the 22nd.
The Vanuatu electoral college consists of 52 members of parliament and 6 provincial council presidents. According to the Constitution of Vanuatu, a presidential candidate must receive at least two-thirds of the total votes to be elected; otherwise, a new round of voting will be held.
Vanuatu operates under a parliamentary system, with the President serving as the head of state for a five-year term.
The previous President of Vanuatu, Iolu Johnson Abbil, took office on September 2, 2009, and his term ended on September 2, 2014. Because the electoral college failed to elect a new president, Speaker of Parliament Philip Boedoro served as acting president.
