Immigrating to Portugal and living in Portugal, did you know? If you choose an affordable supermarket to shop at the right time, you can save over 350 euros in a year.

Recently, the Portuguese Consumer Rights Association released a price ranking of various products in Portuguese supermarkets. The overall ranking shows that Jumbo is the cheapest supermarket, while Spar is the most expensive, with an average price 11% higher than Jumbo.
The Consumer Rights Association conducted a survey from July to September this year in 78 urban areas across the country. The results indicate that, whether for brand prices or manufacturer direct sales prices, Jumbo supermarket is the cheapest. The second place is Pingo Doce, which is about 3% more expensive than Jumbo; the third place is Continente.
The survey results also show that there is the largest price discrepancy between different supermarkets in Setúbal and Santarém. For example, shopping at Jumbo supermarket on Coracao de Maria Avenue in Setúbal can save you 353 euros in a year compared to shopping at Spar supermarket in the same area.
Similarly in the Santarém area, the two supermarkets Pingo Doce and Minipreço, which are less than a five-minute walk apart, can save consumers nearly 89 euros in a year at Pingo Doce.
