According to the latest announcement from the U.S. Department of State, stricter non-immigrant visa interview requirements will be implemented effective September 2, 2025. Under the new regulations, all applicants, including children under 14 and seniors over 79, will be required to attend a consular interview, with the exception of specific diplomatic and official visas (such as A, G, and NATO categories).

1. Key changes include:
• The interview waiver eligibility for children under 14 and seniors over 79 will no longer apply; they must appear in person at an embassy or consulate for an interview!
• The threshold for B1/B2 tourist/business visa renewals has been significantly raised. To qualify for an interview waiver, all of the following conditions must be met: 1. The previous visa is still valid or expired within the last 12 months; 2. The applicant was at least 18 years old when the last visa was issued; 3. There is no record of visa refusal in the applicant's history; 4. The application is submitted in the country of citizenship or long-term residence; 5. There are no obvious or potential grounds for ineligibility. Otherwise, an interview will be required!
• F, J, and M category visas are no longer eligible for interview waiver renewals under any circumstances.
• H-1B visa applicants may only apply for an interview waiver if their employer remains unchanged; otherwise, they must attend an interview in person.
2. Important Notes
It is important to note that even if an applicant fully meets the interview waiver criteria (such as meeting all requirements for B-category renewals), there is no guarantee of interview-free processing. According to U.S. Department of State regulations, consular officers retain discretionary authority on a case-by-case basis to require any applicant to attend an interview for reasons such as security screening, information verification, or random checks. An interview waiver represents an eligibility status, not a guarantee of the final outcome.
This adjustment is expected to significantly increase visa processing times. The Department of State advises applicants planning to travel to the U.S. to plan ahead and stay informed about the specific implementation details of embassies and consulates. Embassies and consulates will adjust interview appointment arrangements based on the new policy, and applicants can check the latest requirements through official channels. Currently, applicants who meet the interview waiver criteria may still submit their materials under the existing policy before September 2.
3. Policies Change Rapidly
Plan your U.S. status in advance
For those planning to go to the U.S., true security regarding one's status comes from long-term, stable immigration planning. A visa is merely a temporary ticket, while a Green Card is a permanent pass. Wise U.S. planning begins with choosing reliable status protection. If you are interested in U.S. immigration, the U.S. EB-5 investment immigration program is currently one of the most effective ways to quickly obtain a U.S. Green Card.
The EB-5 investment immigration program has no restrictions on age, education, language, business background, or work experience. One application allows the entire family to immigrate to the U.S., enabling them to live and work anywhere in the country, providing children with free public education (K-12), and allowing spouses and unmarried children under 21 to immigrate together, among many other advantages.
Under the new act, investing in an EB-5 rural project under the reserved visa category offers exemption from visa backlogs and priority processing by USCIS. Furthermore, EB-5 applicants already in the U.S., including international students, can perform "concurrent filing." This means that in the absence of a backlog, applicants can simultaneously file Form I-526E (Immigrant Petition by Regional Center Investor) and Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status). They may also apply for travel authorization (I-131) and work authorization (I-765), allowing them to legally reside, study, and work in the U.S., enjoy quasi-Green Card freedom in advance, and quickly resolve the issue of legal status in the U.S.
Currently, the "Great Smoky Mountains • Marriott Hotel" EB-5 rural project is highly sought after. With the following core advantages, this project is becoming a popular choice for current EB-5 investment:
☑ Approximately 1.5x real estate first-priority collateral + developer shareholders providing personal asset joint liability repayment guarantees
☑ A multi-billion fund provides guarantees against I-956F denial, I-526E denial, and job creation
☑ Project job creation multiplier as high as 1.7x
☑ Located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which boasts tens of millions of visitors, far exceeding Yellowstone
☑ Situated in the prime, high-demand town of Gatlinburg, where properties are in short supply
☑ The project has already broken ground; hotel development has entered the substantive construction phase with transparent supervision and regular construction progress updates
