Effective April 1, 2025, changes to the Active Investor Visa include:
● Dividing investments into Growth Investments starting from NZD 5 million and Balanced Investments starting from NZD 10 million;
● Expanding the scope of acceptable investments for Balanced Investments to include bonds and property development (new residential, new/existing commercial or industrial property);
● Reducing residency requirements for applicants who choose more active investments;
● Reducing the time allowed for holders of Growth and Balanced investment visas to complete their investments in New Zealand; in principle, both categories must complete all investments within 6 months of receiving approval in principle, though an extension of 6 months may be requested;
● Removing English language requirements.
The Growth Category will focus on high-risk investments, including direct investment in New Zealand businesses. It requires a minimum investment of NZD 5 million for a minimum term of 3 years.
The Balance Category will focus on mixed investments, with options for lower-risk investments. It requires a minimum investment of NZD 10 million over five years.
Immigration New Zealand hopes to attract more investment into the country by lowering the thresholds for investment immigration and simplifying the process. For many investors, these adjustments to New Zealand's immigration policy are undoubtedly positive news.
