Against the backdrop of the internationalization of education, an increasing number of parents are choosing to send their children abroad for their studies. For families with immigration intentions, how should they choose a study destination to pave a broader path for their children's future development? A recently released ranking undoubtedly serves as an important reference.
Recently, the Center for China and Globalization (CCG) released the "2023-2024 Blue Book on the Development of Chinese Students Studying Abroad," which provides a detailed analysis of the latest trends in Chinese students studying overseas. According to the data, as of 2021, the United States remains the world's top destination for international students, with international students choosing to study in the U.S. accounting for 14.85% of the global total.
Global study abroad continues to maintain growth momentum, and China remains the world's largest source of international students, with 15.99% of the world's international students originating from there.
According to the data, as of 2021, the top five study destinations chosen by the most Chinese students accounted for 65.96% of the total number of Chinese students studying abroad. These five countries are:
1. United States (295,398, accounting for 28.92%)
2. United Kingdom (145,779, accounting for 14.27%)
3. Australia (93,437, accounting for 9.15%)
4. Canada (79,728, accounting for 7.81%)
5. South Korea (59,344, accounting for 5.81%)
At the same time, the destinations for Chinese students studying abroad are changing along with policy developments and evolving concepts of study abroad. The number of students in traditional destinations is stabilizing, while new destinations are constantly emerging, showing a trend toward greater diversification.
Regarding fields of study, Chinese students continue to be dominated by STEM fields, while interest in business studies is gradually declining. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, often collectively referred to as "science and engineering" disciplines.
Since the 2015/16 academic year, the proportion of Chinese students in the U.S. pursuing STEM majors has continued to increase, exceeding 60% in the 2020/21 academic year and reaching 62.5% in the 2022/23 academic year, significantly higher than the overall level of international students in the U.S. choosing STEM majors (55%). Conversely, the proportion of Chinese students choosing business administration has declined year by year, from 24.3% in the 2015/16 academic year to 13.4% in the 2022/23 academic year.
The United States, as a leader in the field of education, brings together high-quality educational resources, a mature educational system, and forward-looking educational philosophies, and has always been a dream destination for Chinese families and students. For families who aspire to have their children receive an American education and hope for their long-term development in the U.S. after graduation, how to skillfully resolve potential issues caused by status is a point worth deep consideration.
Plan ahead and secure Green Card status in advance. Parents who plan their immigration application in advance, allowing their children to study abroad with a Green Card, will find that the differences are not only reflected in tuition costs, scholarship applications, and student loans, but may also play a key decisive role in future employment opportunities and admission to prestigious schools. Students themselves can also enjoy the "invisible benefits" brought by "Green Card status."
If the child is already studying in the United States, under the new EB-5 investment immigration policy, they can perform concurrent filing to obtain a Green Card quickly. The EB-5 rural project currently has no backlog and sufficient quotas, allowing for concurrent filing. While submitting the immigration application, one can also submit the I-485 application for adjustment of status, as well as I-131 and I-765 applications, thereby living and working in the United States more quickly.
Currently, the three best-selling premium EB-5 projects on the market, for which Worldway acts as the exclusive agent in Greater China, include the "University Town Hilton Hotel" (I-956F already approved) and the "Florida Lakeside Jewish Community" EB-5 project (I-956F already approved & I-526E already approved for actual cases), as well as the "Hawaii Curio Collection by Hilton" EB-5 project created by capital giants. These are all high-quality EB-5 rural projects that have been screened and strictly vetted by the Worldway Group.
These three premium EB-5 projects are all rural TEA projects that comply with the new act. They not only enjoy reserved EB-5 visa quotas but also receive priority processing from the immigration authorities. They combine many advantages such as no backlog, priority approval, and EB-5 funds enjoying first-priority mortgage guarantees. With investments starting from $800,000, one person applies and the whole family obtains a Green Card quickly. Quotas are scarce, so act fast.
