Good news! According to the latest information from the Hong Kong government, the list of eligible universities recognized under the "Top Talent Pass Scheme" (TTPS) has been updated and will take effect on January 1, 2024. The updated list has increased from 184 to 185 domestic and overseas universities, with 1 new mainland university and 3 new overseas universities added. The details are as follows:
1. Central South University, Hunan (China)
2. Queen Mary University of London, UK
3. University of Technology Sydney, Australia
4. University of São Paulo, Brazil
Meanwhile, the University of Goettingen (Germany), Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands), and the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine (USA) have been removed from the list. Individuals who graduated with a bachelor's degree from these three institutions will no longer be eligible to apply for Category B or Category C of the "Top Talent Pass Scheme" starting from January 1, 2024.
As is well known, the Hong Kong Top Talent Pass Scheme aims to attract high-income individuals and graduates from the world's top 100 universities to explore opportunities in Hong Kong. These high-end talents are not required to have secured a job offer in the Hong Kong SAR at the time of application. Upon meeting general immigration requirements, they may be granted a 24-month stay in Hong Kong without being subject to other conditions of stay.
Applicants may choose one of the following categories to apply for the Top Talent Pass Scheme:
1. Individuals whose annual income reached HK$2.5 million or above (or equivalent in foreign currency) in the year immediately preceding the application (Category A application).
2. Individuals who have been awarded a bachelor's degree by one of the world's top 100 universities and have accumulated at least three years of work experience within the five years immediately preceding the application (Category B application).
3. Individuals who have been awarded a bachelor's degree by one of the world's top 100 universities within the five years immediately preceding the application, but have less than three years of work experience (Category C application); this category is subject to an annual quota and is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Furthermore, Category C is not applicable to non-local students who have obtained a bachelor's degree through full-time, locally accredited programs in the Hong Kong SAR.
The criteria for identifying the world's top 100 universities are based on those that have appeared on four designated world university rankings within the past five years: Times Higher Education World University Rankings; QS World University Rankings; U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings; and the Academic Ranking of World Universities by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
According to the information currently released by the Hong Kong government, the 13 top 100 universities in mainland China include: Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Science and Technology of China, Sun Yat-sen University, Nanjing University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Central South University.
The continued expansion of the list of eligible universities for the Top Talent Pass Scheme demonstrates that Hong Kong's determination to attract talent remains very strong. If you are interested in Hong Kong residency and are a graduate of a top 100 university, seize this opportunity—apply early to benefit early! The scheme offers multiple advantages, such as: no investment required, no prior job offer required, no asset requirements, no quota restrictions, no point-based system, and the ability for spouses and unmarried children under 18 to accompany the applicant. Furthermore, successful applicants receive a 2-year valid visa, enjoy convenient renewal, and have the freedom to enter and exit Hong Kong.
