WorldWay Group reminds travelers to the United States that before departing, it is essential to carefully understand U.S. entry regulations to ensure a smooth customs clearance. This includes reviewing EVUS enrollment information to ensure registration is complete, and verifying that all relevant documents are valid. Recently, the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles issued a special notice reminding everyone to pay attention to the following matters, the original text of which is as follows:
Recently, there have been continuous reports of Chinese citizens encountering obstacles when entering the U.S. at Los Angeles. The main reasons include invalid visas, failure to update EVUS information as required, failure to register and pay for SEVIS as required, failure to enter the U.S. within the specified date, expired I-20 forms or cancellation due to failure to complete studies, failure to truthfully state study and work history when applying for a visa, and the purpose of the visit not matching the visa category held. The Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles reminds Chinese citizens planning to enter the U.S. via Los Angeles to carefully understand U.S. entry regulations before their trip to ensure a smooth customs clearance.
I. Make preparations before coming to the U.S. and ensure all documents are valid
Chinese citizens planning to travel to the U.S. should prepare valid Chinese passports, U.S. visas, and other documents in advance according to their personal purpose of visit and the type of visa held. Those holding B1/B2 visas with a maximum validity of 10 years must complete EVUS enrollment as required by the U.S. side (for details, please refer to the notice published by our Consulate: "Reminder for Chinese Citizens to Update Personal Information in the Electronic Visa Update System in a Timely Manner Before Traveling to the U.S." http://losangeles.china-consulate.gov.cn/chn/lbyj/202307/t20230727_11118398.htm). Students must register and pay for SEVIS as required, enter the U.S. within the specified time, confirm that their I-20 or DS-2019 forms are valid, and review the "Tips for International Students Arriving in the United States" published by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) (https://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/chinese_student.pdf). At the same time, carry copies of the materials submitted when applying for the visa, such as invitation letters, round-trip flight tickets, hotel bookings, school admission letters, and contact information. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers may ask the applicant to present the aforementioned materials; relevant documents and supporting materials should be carried with you and not placed in checked luggage.
II. Understand the U.S. entry process and properly handle inquiries and inspections
Holding a valid U.S. visa does not guarantee entry into the United States; U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have the final authority to decide whether to allow an applicant to enter.
According to U.S. law, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have the right to inspect entrants. If they have questions about the documents, items, or purpose of entry of the entrant, they may require the entrant to go to a secondary inspection area for further examination and interviews. If the U.S. side determines that the entrant is carrying prohibited items, has illegal or non-compliant information stored on electronic devices, has a poor record in the U.S., or if the visa category held by the applicant does not match the purpose of the visit, the visa application materials were not filled out truthfully, the visa is expired, invalid, or has been cancelled, or if students have not registered and paid for SEVIS as required, have not entered within the specified time, or if I-20 or DS-2019 forms are expired or invalid, it will lead to the applicant being denied entry, repatriated, or even facing legal liability.
We remind Chinese citizens planning to enter through our consular district to make preparations according to their own circumstances. If you encounter inquiries or inspections by U.S. law enforcement officers, please answer objectively, truthfully, and accurately, and cooperate with the inspection. If you do not understand the questions or have difficulty expressing yourself accurately in English, please do not answer casually; you should request the assistance of an interpreter to avoid misunderstandings and trouble. Please remain calm during the communication process, do not engage in verbal disputes or physical conflicts with law enforcement officers, and avoid causing more serious consequences. If you encounter obstacles to entry, you may try to negotiate with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers to withdraw your application for entry; if granted, this may avoid leaving a record of denied entry and repatriation.
As everyone knows, the United States, as a traditional major immigration country, has always been an ideal destination for many people due to its advanced medical technology, sound social welfare, superior natural environment, and top-tier education level. The U.S. Green Card is a high-value identity card globally: enjoying benefits stipulated by the U.S. government, accessing high-quality and comprehensive medical services, children attending public schools to receive first-class education, and the convenience of a status that allows global travel.
For a long time, the U.S. EB-5 investment immigration has been an effective way to quickly obtain a U.S. Green Card. The application requirements are flexible, with no restrictions on age, education, language, business background, or work experience. One person applies, and the whole family immigrates to the U.S., allowing them to live and work anywhere in the U.S., children enjoy free public education (K12), and spouses and unmarried children under 21 can immigrate together.
