Recently, Canada's new Minister of Immigration stated upon taking office that the government needs to maintain or increase its annual target of approximately 500,000 permanent residents. New immigration targets are expected to be announced on November 1st of this year.
Although an increasing number of Canadians have criticized rapid population growth for exacerbating the existing housing shortage, the new Minister of Immigration does not fully subscribe to this view and appears unlikely to lower immigration targets. He stated: "We have to get away from this idea that immigration is the primary driver of housing pressure and rising housing costs. People tend to look at the immediate situation rather than considering the longer-term impacts. If Canadians want to have the dental care, healthcare, and affordable housing they desire, the best way to achieve that is by gaining more skilled labor."
He further added: "There is no reason to reduce immigration numbers because the demand is so high," and "I am considering raising the immigration targets, but one thing is certain: I do not believe we will lower this target."
It is well known that Canada has been working hard to attract more immigrants in recent years. Almost 100% of Canada's labor force growth is dependent on new immigrants. Due to serious aging issues, there is a shortage of skilled labor in the market, leading to significant job vacancies in Canada. Therefore, immigration has always been a vital component of the Canadian economy, and it is for this reason that Canada has consistently made great efforts to welcome and accept new immigrants.
According to the "2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan" released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the country will welcome 1.45 million new immigrants over the next three years. Specifically, the plan aims to admit 465,000 permanent residents in 2023, 485,000 in 2024, and 500,000 in 2025.
The rapid growth in immigration numbers demonstrates that Canada is a highly popular destination. In terms of environment, education, and healthcare, Canada is an excellent choice for immigration applicants. This also indicates that Canada's immigration policies are welcoming to applicants, and now is an opportune time for immigration. We also look forward to the announcement of new immigration targets in November.
In recent years, the number of Canadian immigration applicants has been increasing steadily. Investors can immigrate to Canada through the Rural Renewal Stream (RRS) in Alberta. This program has relatively lower requirements for language proficiency, education, and work experience. Once an applicant obtains a job offer from a community, achieves a CLB 4/5 language score, has 12 months of relevant work experience within the past 18 months (a combination of experience in Alberta, other Canadian provinces, or even abroad), and possesses a high school diploma or above, they can apply for community endorsement to receive an Alberta provincial nomination, and subsequently submit an application for permanent residence to the IRCC. Furthermore, immigrating to Canada through the Alberta Rural Renewal Stream (RRS) features a low entry threshold, a simple application process, and fast approval times.
