Recently, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced on its official website that starting September 23, 2022, most permanent residence application programs will transition from paper-based to online submissions. This move aims to modernize the immigration system and further improve service quality, signaling a comprehensive acceleration of the Canadian immigration application process.

In fact, online immigration applications are not new. Since March 31, 2021, some applicants have been able to use the Permanent Residence Portal to apply for permanent immigration programs online. Now, Canada has announced that from September 23 to October 28, it will gradually achieve 100% digital online applications. Popular programs such as the Provincial Nominee Program (non-Express Entry), family sponsorship, Quebec skilled worker programs, and the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot will only accept online applications. If an applicant is unable to apply online, they may contact the immigration office to request a paper submission; otherwise, paper applications will be returned unless there are special circumstances.
Furthermore, to reduce waiting times, the Minister of Immigration has announced updates to the immigration system, including waiving medical examination requirements for permanent and temporary residence applicants already in Canada. This measure applies only to those who meet specific criteria, and it is expected that approximately 180,000 immigration applicants will benefit. Canada previously provided medical exam exemptions for eligible applicants already in the country between June 2021 and March 2022. It is worth noting that the specific criteria and the effective date for this rule have not yet been announced.
At the same time, Canada will introduce more programs with application status tracking. By the spring of 2023, seven additional permanent and temporary residence programs will have status trackers, similar to the one launched in February for spousal, partner, and dependent child sponsorship applicants. Additionally, the immigration office is improving its online processing time tool to provide more accurate information.
As a traditional major immigration destination, Canada's steady growth in immigration is crucial to its post-pandemic economic recovery. The entire government, from top to bottom, is well aware of the importance of new immigrants to economic development. It is foreseeable that, with the efforts of the immigration department and the backdrop of accelerated processing, investors who are interested in or currently processing Canadian immigration will encounter excellent opportunities!
Currently, among the various types of Canadian immigration programs, employer-sponsored immigration is highly sought after by investors. Among them, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) for employer-sponsored immigration, with its low threshold and flexible application conditions, provides a convenient pathway for investors to immigrate to Canada quickly and is highly popular!
