Recently, the Portuguese government announced that it will strengthen family allowances, providing a minimum of 600 euros per year for each child, regardless of age, and additional benefits for children in extreme poverty.
The Minister of Labor, Solidarity, and Social Security of Portugal stated during a Council of Ministers meeting that the enhanced family allowance will take effect in September, implemented in phases, and will be retroactive to July, completing in 2023. The new family allowance will cover approximately 400,000 children in the first and second phases.
In addition to this allowance, children and young people in extreme poverty will receive an extra monthly subsidy of 70 euros this year, which will increase to 100 euros per month in 2023. This measure will benefit approximately 123,000 children. Furthermore, the Council of Ministers also approved modifications to the family allowance standards, aimed at "adapting to the changes in minimum wage."
Charming Portugal has always been a country that many aspire to. With its warm temperate maritime climate, an enchanting coastline of 850 kilometers, beaches, seafood, and football, it consistently ranks at the top of international travel lists. Additionally, due to its robust healthcare system, quality educational resources, and lenient immigration policies, it has become a popular choice for overseas education and immigration.
At the same time, Portugal is a high-welfare country that places great emphasis on child welfare. From pregnancy and childbirth to parenting and schooling, there are generous subsidies and favorable policies at every stage, continuously alleviating the burden on parents raising children. Portugal is recognized as one of the best countries in the world for raising children. The numerous benefits in Portugal cover all aspects of childcare, and the government provides free public education to all residents, implementing compulsory education until the age of 18.
In today's society, many Chinese parents are planning ahead for their children's education and development by obtaining a second nationality for them. According to the new Portuguese Nationality Law, children born in Portugal to foreign immigrants who have resided in Portugal for at least one year (with a residence card) can obtain Portuguese nationality. This means that children born to non-Portuguese immigrants who have legally resided in Portugal for one year can benefit from the convenient policy of acquiring Portuguese nationality upon birth, obtaining a Portuguese passport, which is an EU passport. After acquiring nationality, children can enjoy various benefits as Portuguese citizens and access EU resources.
Currently, investors can apply for Portuguese Golden Residence status by investing in real estate starting from 280,000 euros, allowing three generations of the family to enjoy Portugal's generous social welfare and quality educational resources, with free movement across 26 Schengen countries. Additionally, if certain conditions are met, children can participate in the Overseas Chinese Student Examination as overseas Chinese students, easily gaining admission to prestigious universities such as 985 and 211, enjoying education in mainland universities, which is truly a win-win situation! Furthermore, after holding a Portuguese Golden Residence Permit for five years and meeting the low residency requirement of seven days per year, one becomes eligible to apply for Portuguese nationality and receive a Portuguese EU passport, enjoying the generous benefits of EU citizenship.
