Recently, the highly anticipated 2022 University Impact Rankings were released by the UK's Times Higher Education (THE). In this ranking, a total of 16 Canadian universities made it into the top 100, demonstrating excellent performance. Among them, Western University ranked in the global top three with a high score of 97.8!

The THE University Impact Rankings differ significantly from other global academic and subject rankings. This ranking focuses on demonstrating the "social value" of universities, using it to measure their academic progress and social impact, which largely reflects a university's influence on society under specific research and teaching standards.
This year, 1,524 universities from 110 countries and regions participated in the ranking, an increase of 23% compared to last year, with 1,406 universities entering the overall ranking. The ranking evaluates universities based on the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as shown in the chart below. This release produced a total of 18 rankings: one overall ranking and 17 individual SDG rankings.

To participate in the overall ranking, universities must submit SDG 17 and at least three other Sustainable Development Goals. The score is calculated as follows:
Sustainable Development Goal 17 — 22%
Highest individual goal score — 26%
Second highest individual goal score — 26%
Third highest individual goal score — 26%
This means that the scores of different universities are based on a different set of Sustainable Development Goals, depending on their focus.
In the overall ranking, 16 Canadian universities made it into the top 100: Western University, Queen's University, University of Alberta, University of Victoria, University of British Columbia, University of Guelph, York University, Laval University, McMaster University, University of Calgary, University of Waterloo, University of Saskatchewan, Lakehead University, Université de Montréal, University of Toronto, and Concordia University.
In the individual rankings, for SDG 1 (No Poverty), 7 Canadian universities entered the top 20, with Western University ranking first. For SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), 6 Canadian universities entered the top 20. For SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 2 Canadian universities entered the top 20. For SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), the University of British Columbia ranked first. For SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 7 Canadian universities entered the top 20. Canadian universities also performed well in other individual rankings.
It is evident that Canadian universities performed remarkably well in this ranking. Canadian education has long been world-renowned, and Canadian universities are featured in numerous rankings. Of course, rankings are only a reference; the school that suits you best is the best one. As the saying goes, "Education planning, status first." If you want your children to enjoy high-quality education in Canada, obtaining Canadian status for them is a better choice. At the same time, for families immigrating to Canada, children can return to China as overseas Chinese students to take the Joint Entrance Exam for Overseas Chinese Students, easily entering top-tier universities like 985 and 211 institutions to enjoy mainland higher education. Alternatively, they can choose to study in Canada and receive a pure overseas education.
