Recently, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that it welcomed 45,000 new immigrants during the month of September. Canada's new immigrant data for the first 9 months of 2021 is as follows: 24,680 in January; 23,395 in February; 22,425 in March; 21,155 in April; 17,100 in May; 35,700 in June; 39,500 in July; 37,780 in August; and 45,000 in September. The total number is 266,735.

According to the data, Canada will need to receive another 134,000 immigrants between October and December to reach its target of 401,000, which averages out to approximately 44,755 new immigrants per month.

Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development Monte McNaughton stated at a press conference that Ontario is facing a severe labor shortage. Ontario has called on the federal government to increase the provincial nominee quota from 9,000 to 18,000 per year to address this issue. Currently, the federal government is formulating its 2022 immigration plan and is reviewing Ontario's request to increase the number of new immigrants.
