Good news, Canada has reopened its borders to all foreign travelers!The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has officially announced that starting September 7, 2021, foreign travelers who have been fully vaccinated with vaccines approved by Canada will be allowed to enter the country. International travelers who meet the entry requirements will not be required to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. This is a new measure in the Canadian government's phased border reopening plan.
Previously, on August 9, Canada took the first step toward reopening to foreign nationals after the pandemic-related "border closure," allowing Americans who had been fully vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccines recognized by Canadian authorities for at least 14 days to enter Canada from the United States. Now, Canada is opening its borders to all international travelers who meet the same conditions. This marks the first comprehensive reopening since the ban on foreign nationals was announced on March 16 last year due to the pandemic!
It should be noted that there are currently multiple conditions for foreign nationals to enter the country. The new entry regulations are as follows:
1. Travelers must provide proof of having received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Canada (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Janssen) at least 14 days prior to arrival, and must not have any COVID-19 symptoms;
2. A valid negative COVID-19 molecular test result prior to arrival ("rapid tests" are not accepted; the test must be taken no more than 72 hours before the scheduled flight or arrival at a land border crossing, or a positive test result taken between 14 and 180 days prior to arrival);
3. Must agree to undergo a COVID-19 test upon arrival if selected;
4. Submit relevant information, including proof of vaccination and a quarantine plan in English or French, via the ArriveCAN app or website within 72 hours prior to arriving in Canada. Those who cannot present an ArriveCAN receipt will not be allowed to board their flight.
Vaccinated parents traveling with unvaccinated children:
As with the previous regulations from August 9, unvaccinated children under 12 traveling with fully vaccinated parents or guardians are exempt from quarantine but must follow enhanced public health measures, including not attending daycare or school for 14 days; unvaccinated children aged 12 to 17, and dependent children aged 18 or older, may enter Canada if accompanied by fully vaccinated parents or guardians, but are subject to a 14-day quarantine measure; all unvaccinated children (except those under five) must undergo COVID-19 testing on the first and eighth days of their arrival in Canada.
Eligible travelers who are not fully vaccinated:
For travelers who are not fully vaccinated but are eligible to enter Canada, such as Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or those registered under the Indian Act, there are no changes to testing and quarantine requirements. These travelers are still required to undergo quarantine, all testing requirements (pre-arrival, day one, and day eight), and mandatory submission of travel, contact, and quarantine plans via ArriveCAN.
Based on the four vaccines approved by Canada, tourists from China are currently not yet able to enter Canada. Although Chinese citizens who have not received vaccines recognized by the Canadian federal government cannot currently enter Canada for purely tourism purposes, as Canada's tourism gradually opens up, it is believed that in the coming months, more vaccines will be recognized by the federal government, and the day when Chinese tourists can smoothly enter Canada is not far off! WorldWay will continue to monitor the situation and share any news with you as soon as it becomes available.
